Domino Effect Continues

Gone

Gone

Going

The reports today are that Colonel Gadaffi has ordered the use of heavy weapons, including mortars and incredibly, anti aircraft guns to be used against demonstrators that has lead to the deaths of over 300 people in the Eastern city of Benghazi. The butcher of Libya who seized control of the North African nation in a military coup in 1969 aged 27, is not giving up without a fight. Given the ruthless record of this despot who has murdered and terrorised the people of Libya for decades as well as exporting terrorism to scores of nations (including Ireland), I would speculate that he is prepared to murder hundreds of thousands to cling on to power.

The Colonel's most interesting accomplishment, in my view, was his program to have every Libyan self-sufficient in their meat and egg consumption. Every family was given a chicken to raise, as well as breed with a government cockerel I assume.

Of course, many families in Tripoli live in small, crowded apartments and didn't have the heart for such endeavors. The smell of roasting chicken wafted throughout the city for weeks. I'm sure many residents of Arab countries consider themselves lucky that media focus is on Israel so much, to spare them constant national embarrassment.

Congratulations on the new blog. It struck me before that you should set one up. You are an excellent debater. I look forward to having many rows with you.

That particular program by Gaddafi sounds like a typical populist stunt that dictators often pull. Typically, it was not very well thought through.

Have you ever read one of Qaddaffi's books, like The Little Green Book or Escape to Hell? The latter is readily available in the West, anyway:

Its full of the most incoherent, rambling nonsense I've ever seen. He has a story about an astronaut who goes insane after a mission, an essay lamenting the collapse of the Soviet Union and even suggested natural cures for some ailments. The man is so insane, it would be funny if it weren't so inevitable someone like him would fire on protesters with the weaponry he did.

Thanks for the link.

Most dictators are prudent and rational despite their Iron rule. However I genuinely believe that Gadaffi is psychotic, and probably insane.
