Gingrich in Front

I must apologise to any Newt fans out there but I just had to put this up.

The Republicans seem to me to be making a big mistake in their thinking. They don't realise that Barack Obama is not Jimmy Carter and Newt Gingrich is not Ronald Reagan. This is an altogether different showdown requiring a much different approach. If they don't get to grips with this they will lose.

I agree besides people with silly sounding names rarely win elections.

WHAT I LEARNED FROM THE BBC TODAY.
Book of the Week. El Narco by Ioan
Grillo. Radio 4. History of the drug
cartels in Mexico. The British took
opium poppies from India to China.
Chinese labourers took them to Mexico
in the 1860's.At that time Mexico had
become an economic satellite of the
USA, who was exploiting its raw materials and making its workers destitute. This was after the war on
Mexico when the US stole huge areas
of land in pursuit of their policy
of 'Manifest Destiny.'This assumed
the right to dominate 'lesser' peoples. An interesting Irish connection. The Irish in the US army sympathised with their fellow
Catholics and deserted in droves to
the other side. When the US caught
them they were hanged as traitors.
The US army uniforms at that time
were green. The Mexicans chanted:
'green -go!' hence 'gringo'. In WW2
the US needed huge quantities of
opium for morphine and so a massive
drugs industry burgeoned in Mexico.
Farmers stopped growing food for the more profitable crop. After the
war, the US civilian demand took
over with 22 million Americans with
a drug habit. And so emerged the
'war on drugs'which has killed 50,000 Mexicans since 2006.And now
a fence along the entire border is
to be built to stop the 'Reconquistadores', Mexicans trying
to settle in numbers in their
former homelands. Ioan Grillo ends
up favouring the legalisation of
all drugs.Could and should be done
with a massive educational programme 24/7 for at least a year
before.

Yeh I know, Newt and Mitt, Where do the yanks get these names from. Mind you, Barack has done alright. I hope when I'm running for World President one day people don't hold my rhyming name against me.

Very interesting indeed. But I would appreciate it if you kept your comments on topic.
