If Johnny Adair had a nuclear weapon

Benjamin Netanyahu made a passionate yet simple case at the UN this week for why the world must stop the Islamic Republic of Iran from becoming a nuclear power. Given that most Irish commentators were not particularly impressed by the Israeli Prime Minister's plea for action, allow me to make an even simpler case, one which might strike a cord with Irish people.

Imagine that the Northern Irish troubles were still raging. And imagine that there was a coup by a hard line loyalist group like the UDA or UVF and that they overthrew the Unionist government in Stormount. And imagine that a bloodthirsty terrorist like Johnny Adair was the new dictator of Northern Ireland. And what if he declared his intention to once and for all eradicate the Catholic Republican threat by annihilating the Republic of Ireland. And finally, imagine intelligence reports continued to make clear that the UDA government in Belfast was actively seeking to develop a nuclear capability. What would we in Dublin do if faced with a situation like that? I make this analogy because that is the situation that Israel is currently faced with. The main difference however is that the Mullahs in Iran are much more fanatic than loyalist paramilitaries in northern Ireland. For the record, if I was the Taoiseach and it my responsibility to confront the aforementioned loyalist danger I would do the following. I would send covert teams into Northern Ireland to assassinate the nuclear scientists working on Belfast's nuclear programme and if possible Adair himself. I would develop an aerial capability to destroy Northern Ireland's nuclear sites and if necessary to bomb all significant military and economic targets in order to destroy the North's capability to conduct war. I wouldn't give a damn if anyone thought I was a war monger. I would do whatever was necessary to prevent my country from being nuked.

I rather agreed with most of the points in this link six months ago, and not much has happened in the interim to change my mind.

There is something missing from your analogy, i.e. some facts. After an unprovoked attack by the South (or its proxies) on the North that killed nearly a million of their people, they naturally sought a deterrent from future attacks, (just as the Western nations do), and looking at their belligerent neighbours with hundreds of nuclear weapons, they decided to embark on a similar DEFENSIVE programme.

oryhiefSpot the difference. Johnny Adair, a psychopath, (who, nevertheless, was instrumental in the peace process), was put into prison by his own people. A similar psychopath, Menachem Begin, was elected Prime Minister by HIS people. I think your analogy is going in the wrong direction!

Ted, get rid of the troll he will offer nothing constructive.

Cranky Notions said...

Yes, Paul. You see, Begin was a 'psychopath', but Arafat was just a guy seeking peace and justice despite the fact he ordered Palestinians to massacre civilians at Damour, where they gouged out the eyes of toddlers.

He also fails to point out when ISRAEL launched an unprovoked attack against Iran that killed a million people. Funny that.

And what role did Johnny Adair play in the NI peace process anyway?

To Cranky Notions - perhaps a more apt pseudonym and we should all encourage the freedom of open ideas - even cranky ones. Iraq attacked Iran with US, UK, French etc. support. 8 years of misery and death with chemical weapons used by Iraq and supplied by the US. One of the reasons Iranians have chanted 'death to Israel' is because the Israeli Gov. assisted Iraq. Senior Mossad agent Victor Ostrovosky openly admits that Israel worked behind the scenes to ensure that Sadaam's military killed Iranians, destroyed Iranian property and that the Iraq/Iran War dragged on for as long as possible - wiki Iran/Iraq War. Johnny Adair was visited in prison by Mo Mowlem who persuaded him to bring Loyalist factions into the peace process - wiki Johnny Adair. I don't doubt that, like all resistance movements, Arafat attracted psychopaths too. To stop them, the best way is to judge the
justice of the cause and act accordingly.

To Cranky Notions. Massacre at Damour. In the mad blood lust of the Lebanese Civil War there were massacres by all sides and where once again Israel is involved (Sabra and Shatila etc.) And, of course, the Palestinians would never have been there but for the ethnic cleansing carried out by Israel in 1948. This tiny racist state has caused death and misery for millions and may yet cause Armageddon for us all.

Builder man: if you want death and misery for millions, try socialism, you wretch.

I have said this before CN, Ted and Rob Harris please take note. There is no point with engaging with a blinkered, bigoted old fool like BM. You can shoot down his drivel with referenced arguments but he will never acknowledge any weaknesses in his position. Much less change the broken old record the senile cunt carries on with. He is a troll and has consistently proven himself to be one. Anyone who believes Mo Mowlam or Johnny Adair are worthy as peace brokers is an imbecile.

To Paul. I realise that contributors to this blog have difficulties with the truth so that is why I reference
statements. For instance I have said often that israel has never had any intention of making a just peace with the Palestinians, and their wars are used as an opportunity to steal as much land as possible that is consistent with powerful opinion. This is now confirmed from the inside of the Israeli establishment in Miko Peled's book The General's Son. A first hand account of the ethnic cleansing in 1948 can be seen at Zochrot.org/en/testimony - hava -keller. Ex- Haganah, she tells of Palestinian prisoners being put to work as in Japan in WW2, cold blooded murders and widespread looting of Palestinian homes. As Jewish historian Ron David puts it:'We stole Palestine - we stole it.'

Sorry I've been out of this one guys.

I'm not blogging much this week because I have a couple of important exams and I will also be away this weekend attending a friends wedding in Co Wicklow. Gubu world will have my undivided attention next week, particularly from Wednesday onward.

John, Paul and Ted, this Miko Peled is clearly an illustrious http://thecjn.ca/node/89740 fellow, the kind a certain "BM"would most appreciate! ;0)

"Peled is emerging as a new face for various anti-Zionist groups and their fellow travellers…recently he was in Ontario, speaking at McMaster University and the University of Western Ontario during Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) programs on these two campuses."

"In some ways, modelling his diatribe along the lines of the so-called “new” (post-Zionist) historians, Peled is able to weave a tapestry of convoluted logic, revisionist history, inherent bias and wilful exaggeration into a simplistic agglomeration of deliberate misstatements and outlandish fantasies that are, at best, ludicrous and, at worst, utterly perfidious.
But what most notably separates him from the post-Zionist historians, or other historians for that matter, is that he is not a historian, nor does he appear to have academic qualifications of any other sort."

"Anyone who believes Mo Mowlam or Johnny Adair are worthy as peace brokers is an imbecile".

I don't know about Mo Mowlam, but this BM fellow was peddling nonsense a while ago about Israel being behind Breivik's massacre in Norway.

He makes himself out to be all about human rights, and maybe he is deluded and believes this is the case. He's really just a silly old socialist who's swallowed the Kool Aid from the darker corners of the left.

Cranky Notions said...

Rob: I agree, Peled has no serious credentials. He just tosses out the talking points of the usual pundits, but has achieved some success and notoriety because of who his relatives are.

Miko Peled. I expected to find contributors to this blog uncomfortable with the truth about Israel. An alternative view (not mine) can be found at mikopeled.com/2012/06/10/review-of-the-generals-son-by-steve-kowit-in-the-san-diego-ut/ An extract reads:
The author of this engaging and important memoir is a sixth degree black belt who runs a thriving karate school in Coronado. He is also the son of one of Israel's most notable generals and political dissidents, Matti Peled, a war hero
who shocked Israel several decades ago by becoming a vocal peace advocate and a professor of Arabic literature at Tel Aviv university.
The author's mother seems to be no less a remarkable figure. In 1948, after several hundred thousand Palestinian civilians had been forced to flee, never to be permitted to return, she refused to follow the example of her compatriots to expropiate the abandoned home of a dispossessed family. She is quoted many years later as explaining:'That I should take the home of a family that may be living in a refugee camp? The home of another mother..I refused..And to see the Israelis driving away with loot, beautiful rugs and furniture, I was ashamed for them, I don't know how they could do it.'

To CRANKY Notions. To correct your misremembered post. I pointed out the FACTS that Breivik was intensly pro-Israel and that the far right in Israel (including some members of the Knesset) were embracing foreign Fascists who deny the Holocaust! These far right groups which Breivik
supported have connections across the world including here in the UK.

This is interesting, if not on topic as such. Looks like the American founder of the Free Gaza movement is a seriously deluded anti-Semite. Well, anti-Semitism is the new anti-racism:

http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/10/04/gaza-flotilla-sponsor-blames-jews-for-holocaust-on-twitter/

Remember that Mahmoud Abbas did his PhD thesis in the Soviet Union which said pretty much the same thing.

To Cranky Notions. I followed your link and read the story. The founder of the Free Gaza movement apparently
sent on the tweet without reading it.
When she understood the content she apologized. I have noticed that you scour the Zionist press for any useful smear however untrue. My familiarity with technology is not great but even I understand that my facebook page receives quotes and stories I do not agree with, not to mention countless 'friends' who I will never meet! I am very wary of electronic message boards and only reference serious print articles.

Cranky Notions said...

BM: Oh yes, I scour the "Zionist press", but you only cite the best the commies and Islamists can come up with!

Rob Harris said...

BM synopsis of the day:

Leader of Free Gaza Movement must surely be a technological luddite because she posted a link to a deeply anti-Semitic video! Absa-Positively a mistake.

BM inference of the day:

No one in the Palestinian movement is anti-Semitic!
